$85 could provide clean water to a family from a rainwater harvesting system.

$375 could provide water to a family for 25 years through a purpose-built pipeline.

$1,250 could help 15 households with long-term access to clean water.

Imagine walking for miles in the burning sun to collect water to drink, and all that you can find is water contaminated with deadly diseases. You know that drinking this water can kill you but you have no choice but to fill up your container and take it back home.

This is the reality for millions of people in drought-hit regions of the world. People like Amsali and her little sister who are both unable to go to school because they have to collect water for their family. They walk for miles across the harsh desert, where they are extremely vulnerable to abuse from strangers.

If they do return safely from their journey, the water they have collected is likely to be infected with deadly diseases such as typhoid and cholera.

You can help young girls like Amsali by donating towards one of our many initiatives designed to provide clean, safe drinking water for families and entire communities.

We look forward to quenching our own thirst at the end of a long day of fasting, so imagine the rewards for doing the same for Amsali and the millions like her who have no access to clean water at all.

Indeed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “ The best charity is giving water to drink.” [Ahmad] and he was also the most generous in giving charity.

Your Zakat and Sadaqah donations will not just give water to those in need; your donations will give life to people, animals and crops thereby regenerating whole communities, so please give generously.

Sadaqah Jariyah

Investing in water projects also makes an excellent form of sadaqah jariyah for loved ones (including those who have passed away), as both you and the recipient continue reaping rewards as long as the project is bringing benefit to people, animals and crops.

Sa’d ibn Ubadah reported: “He said , ‘ O Messenger of Allah, the mother of Sa’d has died, so what is the best charity I may give on her behalf?’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, Water.’ Sa’d dug a well and he said , ‘ This is for the mother of Sa’d.’ [Abu Dawud]
