The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Whoever pays the Zakat on his wealth, will have its evil removed from him'' (Ibn Khuzaimah and AllTabarani)
What is Zakat?
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and a compulsory act of worship. It is the requirement that the Muslim who owns wealth at or over a certain threshold (called the Nisab) should donate a portion of that wealth (typically 2.4%) to those who are eligable.
Zakat is a means to bring together the Muslim community by placing mercy between the hearts of those who are wealthy and those in need. In these times of division, this year we are asking the Muslim community to come together more than ever before and uphold the Islamic values of helping those in need.
Together we can achieve something amazing.
Zakat/Zakah is an Arabic word which is derived from the Semitic languages. Its Arabic reference in the Qur’an in its simplest meaning is to purify. While both words are based on the same Arabic word, Zakat carries a closer pronunciation to the original Arabic word than Zakah.
